Ohio Turnpike Toll Rates 2026

2026 Rate Increase: Toll rates increased 2.7% on 1 January 2026, part of the multi-year rate adjustment schedule approved by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission. The next scheduled increase takes effect 1 January 2027. All figures on this page reflect the current 2026 rates.

The Ohio Turnpike uses distance-based tolling across 241 miles of I-80/I-90. Your toll is calculated by multiplying the per-mile rate for your vehicle class by the distance between your entry and exit interchanges, then rounding to the nearest $0.25. E-ZPass users receive a significant discount of approximately 33% compared to cash and credit card rates. Below you will find the complete 2026 rate schedule for all 7 vehicle classes, full-route costs in both directions, popular segment prices, and historical rate data.

Full Route Costs - Westbound (PA to IN)

The westbound full-route trip runs from Exit 2 (Pennsylvania border / Westfield) to Exit 239 (Indiana border), covering approximately 237 miles of the Ohio Turnpike. Westbound fares are slightly higher than eastbound due to toll collection point positioning.

Full Route Costs - Eastbound (IN to PA)

The eastbound full-route trip runs from Exit 239 (Indiana border) to Exit 2 (Pennsylvania border). Eastbound fares are lower than westbound for all vehicle classes. This is not a pricing decision by the commission; it is simply a result of the physical distance between toll collection points being slightly shorter in the eastbound direction for the full route.

How Vehicle Classification Works

The Ohio Turnpike classifies vehicles into 7 classes based on three measurements: the number of axles, the height of the vehicle above the first two axles, and the overall vehicle length. Your class determines your per-mile toll rate, with higher classes paying progressively more. Understanding your vehicle class is important because an incorrect classification at the toll booth could result in underpayment (and a follow-up charge) or overpayment.

Class 1 is the most common classification and covers the vast majority of personal vehicles: passenger cars, sedans, hatchbacks, station wagons, pickups, SUVs, minivans, and full-size vans. The key criteria are two axles and a height under 7 feet 6 inches above the road at the first two axles. Motorcycles also fall into Class 1. If you are driving a standard personal vehicle without a trailer, you are almost certainly Class 1.

Class 2 covers two-axle vehicles that exceed the 7-foot-6-inch height threshold. This typically includes full-size passenger vans and trucks with tall cargo boxes, box trucks, and some larger RVs. The key distinction between Class 1 and Class 2 is height, not weight.

Classes 3 through 7 are determined primarily by axle count. A three-axle vehicle (such as a pickup towing a single-axle trailer, or a three-axle RV) is Class 3. A standard five-axle semi-truck with a trailer is Class 5. Vehicles with six axles are Class 6, and those with seven or more axles are Class 7. If you are towing a trailer, count all the axles on the towed vehicle as part of your total.

If you are unsure of your vehicle class, do not worry. The toll booth attendant will classify your vehicle visually, and E-ZPass accounts can be updated if your classification changes (for example, when you add or remove a trailer). The official vehicle classification guide is available on the Ohio Turnpike website at ohioturnpike.org.

Minimum Toll Amounts

For very short trips between adjacent interchanges, a minimum toll amount applies. Even if the calculated distance-based toll would be less, you will be charged at least the minimum. For Class 1 vehicles, the minimum toll is approximately $1.50 with E-ZPass and $2.00 with cash. Higher vehicle classes have proportionally higher minimums. This means that even the shortest possible trip on the Ohio Turnpike will cost at least this amount.

Rate Schedule FAQ

What are the 2026 Ohio Turnpike toll rates?+
The 2026 Ohio Turnpike toll rate for Class 1 passenger vehicles is $0.073 per mile with E-ZPass and $0.106 per mile with cash. Rates increased 2.7% on 1 January 2026. A full westbound trip costs $19.00 E-ZPass or $27.75 cash. Commercial vehicles in Classes 2 through 7 pay progressively higher rates based on the number of axles.
How much did Ohio Turnpike rates increase in 2026?+
Ohio Turnpike toll rates increased by 2.7% on 1 January 2026. This is part of a multi-year rate adjustment schedule approved by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission. Annual increases are used to fund road maintenance, infrastructure improvements, and debt service on the turnpike's revenue bonds. The next scheduled increase will take effect on 1 January 2027.
What is the minimum toll on the Ohio Turnpike?+
The minimum toll on the Ohio Turnpike for Class 1 vehicles is approximately $1.50 with E-ZPass and $2.00 with cash. This applies to the shortest possible trips between adjacent interchanges. Higher vehicle classes have correspondingly higher minimum tolls. Even if the calculated distance-based toll would be less than the minimum, you will be charged the minimum amount.
Why do eastbound and westbound Ohio Turnpike tolls differ?+
Eastbound and westbound tolls differ because the toll collection points are positioned slightly differently in each direction relative to the interchanges. The toll is calculated based on the distance between collection points, not simply between interchange exits. This means the effective distance and therefore the toll can vary by a small amount depending on your direction of travel. For a full-route Class 1 trip, westbound is $19.00 E-ZPass while eastbound is $16.00 E-ZPass.
How has the Ohio Turnpike toll rate changed over the years?+
Ohio Turnpike tolls have increased steadily over the decades. The Class 1 E-ZPass per-mile rate was approximately $0.058 in 2020, $0.063 in 2022, $0.068 in 2024, and $0.073 in 2026. Annual increases have averaged around 2.5 to 3 percent in recent years. When the turnpike opened in 1955, the full-route toll for a passenger car was just $2.50, compared to $19.00 E-ZPass or $27.75 cash today.
